The Cataraqui Source Protection Committee is hosting a series of open houses to learn more about its draft source protection plan.
“The open houses will also provide an opportunity for the public to learn about what they can do to keep their drinking water clean,” said Karla Maki-Esdon, Communications Coordinator.
“We have three experts coming to talk about three different subjects that were identified as concerns during the plan preparation – water softeners and treatment systems, home heating oil tanks, and pesticide and herbicide use at home.”
The speakers include Ed Lawrence, gardening expert from CBC Radio; William VanderWilp from McLellan Water Technologies; and Jim Wood from McKeown and Wood Fuels.

All three open houses are from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a presentations taking place at 7:00 p.m.
In addition, a joint open house with the Mississippi-Rideau Source Protection Committee is being held in Rideau Lakes Township. The open house runs from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a presentation at 7:00 p.m. on:

Printed copies of the draft plan are also available for review at the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) administration office.
The deadline for submitting written comments on the source protection plan is Thursday, April 12, 2012. (Note: this has been extended to Thursday, April 26, 2012)
