The Cataraqui Source Protection Committee has released its draft Source Protection Plan for public comment.
The purpose of the plan protects drinking water for the 12 municipal drinking water systems and vulnerable groundwater in the Cataraqui Source Protection Area.
“This is an important milestone for us,” said John Williamson, Cataraqui Source Protection Committee Chair. “We have been working towards this since 2007 when the committee was first formed.”
The Source Protection Plan builds upon all of the information gathered about drinking water in our area over the past five years. The plan used this science-based information and the provisions of the Clean Water Act to develop policies to protect local drinking water sources.
“Source protection plans will be implemented by many organizations and individuals including municipalities, businesses, provincial government agencies and property owners,” added Williamson. “It’s important that everyone knows what’s in the plan and what they can do to keep drinking water clean.”
Three public open houses are scheduled to provide an opportunity for people to learn more about the source protection plan. They will also feature guest speakers on water topics and issues that were raised during the study process.
The open houses will be held at:
The open houses will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., with a presentations taking place at 7:00 p.m.
