Rural residents of the following municipalities are invited to a community roundtable to discuss what can be done to protect sensitive groundwater in the following municipalities:
Most of the groundwater in these municipalities has been identified as being easily polluted because of the soils and fractured bedrock in the area.
The roundtable is being held on Thursday, June 16 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Strathcona Paper Centre in Napanee.
This roundtable provides an opportunity for community members to share their ideas for developing a local plan to protect rural drinking water.
“This roundtable will be of interest to anyone who lives or works in the rural area especially if they get their drinking water from a well,” said Holly Evans, Water Quality Specialist for the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority.
“At this roundtable we’re going to focus on rural groundwater and how to protect it from possible sources of pollution,” added Evans.
Source Protection Committee members and Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority staff will share some draft policy ideas for discussion by the group.
Roundtable participants are encouraged to register in advance so that they can review background materials to prepare for the meeting.
Registration can be done by e-mail at roundtables@cataraquiregion.on.ca or phone (613) 546-4228 ext. 248 or toll-free 1-877-956-CRCA (2722) ext. 248.
