Cataraqui Source Protection Committee to present findings from Sydenham Intake Study

The Cataraqui Source Protection Committee is hosting a series of public open houses in May and June to present findings from their studies of municipal drinking water intakes and wells.

The first open house will be held in Sydenham on Thursday, May 21 at the South Frontenac Township Council Chambers.

“We will be presenting the findings from our Sydenham Intake Protection Zone Study,” said John Williamson Cataraqui Source Protection Committee Chair.
“The study looks at where the water comes from that enters the municipal water intake in Sydenham by measuring the effects of wind and water currents on Sydenham Lake. We are also examining the effects of surrounding land uses and activities on the municipal water supply.”

The Sydenham Intake Protection Zone Study is being conducted by Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority (CRCA) staff and XCG Consultants Ltd.
The open house will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. with a presentation at 7:30 p.m. by the CRCA staff and XCG Consultants.

“Over the next few weeks, we will be holding open houses in other communities to review findings from our other studies of municipal intakes and wells,” added Williamson. “We hope the public comes out to learn about their municipal drinking water and to provide input to our studies.”

These open houses will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the following locations:

Details about these meetings are available on the www.cleanwatercataraqui.ca website.

Information about each of the technical studies will be posted on the website as it becomes available.
